AVHC celebrates the resiliency of our youth in creating a brighter tomorrow.
The Annapolis Valley Honour Choirs are thrilled to present their first spring concert since May 2019. Come hear these wonderful singers raise their voices in “Tomorrow Will Be Kinder” - on May 14th, 2:00pm and 7:00pm at the Wolfville Baptist Church.
“Tomorrow Will Be Kinder” focuses on the important topic of mental health. All three choirs will share music that addresses this subject in interesting ways, exploring messages such as self-confidence, authenticity, technology, accepting support from family and friends, as well as the importance of remaining grateful and keeping a positive outlook. The overwhelming message is one of hope as we move forward as a community.
Heather Fraser, Artistic Director and Conductor, says of the concert: “The singers requested that we explore some music that focused on this topic of mental health. These incredible young people have shown great resilience over the last 2 years, but they have also struggled. We’ve done activities in choir this term that have allowed for good discussions, helped them explore coping strategies for things like stress and negativity, and they know that AVHC is one of the many places they can turn to for support and unconditional love and understanding as they navigate these challenges. Despite the heavier subject, this concert is full of optimism, and we guarantee you will leave with a huge smile on your face.”
Our choir family experienced immeasurable grief this season with the loss of our friend and Choir Coordinator, Vanessa Genette. While words can never express the beauty and kindness that Vanessa shared with the world every day, we will do our very best to honour her memory throughout our performance and will announce our plans to carry on her legacy during the concert.
AVHC alumni of the last few years have been invited back to sing as part of the finale of this concert - a special opportunity for the graduates who didn’t get a chance to sing their final concert the last two years.
Reserve your seat now, as seating is limited. Masking may be mandatory at the concert, depending on the state of the pandemic in Nova Scotia in mid-May. If masking is optional, AVHC will be strongly encouraging concert goers to wear a mask. Please check the AVHC website on the day of the concert for any updates. The choir will again be offering the opportunity to purchase tickets to watch a live stream of the evening concert from the comfort of your own home!
